Depending on the type of policy and the amount of the claim they may want to send a claims investigator round first. If he approves it then usually - again, depending upon the type of policy - they'll issue you a credit note or a (list of) approved suppliers/repairmen that can replace/repair it.
Once your claim is assessed you can usually expect it to be resolved in a couple of weeks. If there's an on-line form then use that, can take a week off the time.
[I'm the silly sod that cancelled their insurance policy 5 weeks before the sound on the TV went...and it'll cost me £140 for the parts and labour ]
